P3: Commercial Uses

Advertising
Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram are a few of the most widely used social networks which means its is easy to make a lot of money through advertising. Using algorithms, the website can tailor ads to what the user will find most interesting and most likely to interact with. This way they can charge the advertisers more according to how much interaction their ad gets.
Below is an advert for Newcastle University that came up on my Facebook timeline. When I first signed up to Facebook I put in my date of birth, using this they know that I'm nearly at the age of going to uni.

Viral marketing
In April 2013 Evian released the advert 'baby & me' where adults saw their reflections as baby versions of themselves. This advert gained enormous popularity and Evian released and app which let users take a picture of themselves and convert it into a baby version and post it on social media. This was a huge success for Evian, today the advert has over 130 million views of Youtube.

Reviews
Companies rely heavily on customer reviews to improve their products and hopefully encourage others to buy their product. There is nearly always a review of any product on the internet somewhere. On a more popular product, there will most likely be a thread on a forum where users can discuss their experiences and opinions with the product. This allows consumers to see opinions from many different people and therefore can get a more balanced idea of the quality of the product before buying.
Below is an image of a forum with a thread of reviews for the IPhone 7.

  1. This is too brief. You need to link to you examples for each and explain a bit more about the concepts. For reviews you should look at sites such as trust pilot. Some pictures would be nice as well?

  2. You still need to look in more detail at how each of theses areas work in relation specific examples
